“Too often cell phones in schools are banned but they are powerful tools. As long as safety precautions and standards are built in, that is.” – USA | daily edventures:
As an overwhelmed and unorganized college student at Michigan State University,Brett Kopf had what he calls an “a-ha moment” one day after receiving a text. Knowing how reliant students were on text messaging, Kopf had the idea to create a program to send reminders to students before assignments are due. The program would enable teachers to effortlessly remind their students of their commitments, and would help students keep track of their work. In 2009, Kopf and his brother David created remind101, and since then, the brothers have racked up more than 200,000 users, developed a smartphone app, and most important, solved an age-old problem. Kopf calls himself a social media junkie, and believes that social media can revolutionize education. Here, Kopf talks about his experiences with remind101, and what he’s learned as a budding entrepreneur.
